St George’s Chapel is situated close to the War Memorial in the Hospital, and has been in existence since the early 1990’s when the hospital was extended to incorporate more NHS services for local people.  It has some lovely stained glass windows overlooking the chapel garden, designed by Don Baines one of the original Trustees of the Friends.

Previously a Holy Communion Service took place in the chapel on Thursday afternoons, and was open to staff, patients and visitors to the hospital.  Understandably, this weekly service had to stop when Covid-19 descended upon us all.  Unfortunately, it has not been possible since then to re-start weekly Holy Communion Services  in the chapel, however the chapel remains open and available for staff, patients, and visitors to visit and provides a place of peace and tranquillity.

Areas in the chapel now no longer meet the standards of good Infection Control.  The Friends are in the process of having the carpets removed and replaced by vinyl flooring, and the fabric chairs replaced with vinyl chairs so that both meet the necessary requirements.  The cost of this is circa £4,542 and was agreed as the May Trustees meeting.

Once these works are completed we will be able to hold services in the St George’s Chapel once again, which will be greatly appreciated by local residents, in-patients and all at the Hospital.
